When starting coumadin, how long does it take to get your INR to a normal level?

Bryan, it varies depending on life style.
If your consistent with the type of foods you eat and drink very moderately, they maybe able to get it set over a couple months.
If your all over the place with your eating habits and alcohol, they will test you every week or two to make adjustments.
It took me a month and half and I go once a month for testing now.

Totally depends. Try and eat the same amount of vitamin K every week. The tiny booklet they give you with a list of high K foods is woefully short. Google "vitamin k content foods" for some excellent lists to review.
While you will probably be told to take Tylenol as your pain reliever, too much can spike your INR, too. http://www.cnn.com/HEALTH/9803/03/drug.interaction/
If you take any herbs or supplements, you should google warfarin and those to make sure they don't interact as well or dose accordingly.

Thanks for the replys. They had to start my mom on coumadin due to valve replacement. And her INR level is very high. She is still at NEMC waiting for her INR levels to come down so they can put in a AICD.
