Hi all,
I just got sprung from 8 days in the hospital. I have a hematoma in my cerebellum that they believe is from my 5 years of Coumadin use. My INR was only 6 at the ER --it has been higher without any complaints. I suppose it was a matter of time.
Anyway, I'm thinking of having this done: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/452162
which sounds like a good idea to me.
Anyone have this done?
I won't be on the board a whole lot, though, because I'm still quite noise/light/sound sensitive. The hematoma will take a while to go away completely.
thanks,
S

S,
I have practically the same thing in my Inferior Vena Cava because my bp was uncontrolled. It dropped to low I'd pass out and they said if I hit my head that was it. Unfortunatly, it only covers the bottom of the body I've also hab clots in my arms on multiple. In my case they call the device a greenfield filter and it can be removed up to two months after implant then is permanant. Placement was a piece of cake just like a heart cath was out of the hospital th enext day. I like it because I don't have to take the dreaded coumadin and it has very few possible side effects but that is if you've thrown so many clots that it clogs the filter.
Hope this helps some!

Thanks everyone!
Nope, not at Mayo. Was at local hospital since this was a sudden-onset kind of thing and my cardiologist is there (who is a past prez of the AHA and head of the cardiology dept of the hospital) so it was not the worst.
although my mom did make the neurosugeon call my doc at 11 pm on a Saturday b/c he had only talked to the cardiologist on call that day. Ha!
And they don't understand patient particpation at this hospital but I made them run pretty hard to answer all my questions and i double checked all my medication including the plasma.
Mary--thanks for the info. good to know. how are you?
if i get anything tricky done, i'll do it at the mayo, though.

Thank you for all the good thoughts!
They must be working because I'm improving really well so far. I have a follow up MRI on the 19th to make sure the hematoma is gone and my veins aren't doing anything odd.
I'm taking it easy and got a laptop for xms so I can keep in touch wherever I am.
Am still looking into my surgical options.

I have my follow up MRI with and without contrast on this Thursday to see if the hematoma has resolved and to make sure I don't have an residual vein disease that had been obscured by the hematoma.
I was diagnosed with granulomatuos disease today -there is one nodule in my right lung and a couple lymph nodes are a bit calcified. Doctor doesn't plan on doing anything about it right now. Don't know if this will affect surgical options or not.
I meet with the cardiac surgeon next week to see what they want to do.
Overall, just trying to keep my spirits up.

Hi Sarah!
Good Luck for the MRI and for the meeting with cardiac surgeon. Please send us some (hopefully!) good news!.
Sorry but I don't now nothing about the PLAATO. I have searched the web page you post and it is the first time I heard about it.
Bye and good Luck

Sarah,
I am praying that you get a good answer from the MRI today.
Do you know which granulomatous disease you have? I suggest that you push a little to find out, as I did not do so and now look at all the lung problems I am having! Is there a correlation? I do not know, but I intend to do my best to find out before we are finished and I sugggest you do so as well.
