Hi folks,
During Beverly's initial consultations with Dr Barry Maron a year and a half ago, we learned that she had a very rare presentation of HCM, where the hypertrophy was "inverted". Because of this we made the decision to donate Beverly's heart to science. It will be kept at the Jesse Edwards Registry (http://www.unitedhospital.com/ahs/united.nsf/page/registry)so that it can be studied by cardiologists from around the world for years to come.

WOW, that's pretty incredible.
Would she be able to see it or would she even want to??
Glad she's doing so well.

I asked about this myself on Monday when I had my first follow-up appointment at the ICD clinic and with the transplant doctor overseeing my care. My HCM isn't so unusual, but one of my valve leaflets is very unusual, so much so that Maron, Sr. said he'd never seen one like it in the entire time he's practiced medicine.
Would she be able to see it or would she even want to??
I don't know about her, but I'd like to see mine after they yank it out.

Ya, it would be pretty interesting to see something that has been pumping in your body for years.

Hi, everybody. I can answer the question of seeing the old heart. I have pictures of mine, it had been cut up but we had the option of looking at it. I have to say it was pretty interesting, and it also showed me how bad of shape I actually was in.

Hey everyone,
I was the one who wanted them to save my heart before sending it so I could see it but that didn't work so yes I will be seeing that nasty heart that was the gift from God that gave me 28 years of life. I can't wait.

Good Luck & Stay Well
