ARVADA, Colo. -- Counselors were brought in to an Arvada elementary school Thursday following the death of a 7-year-old girl on the playground Tuesday.

It was the second time in a week that a local elementary school student died at school.

Thomson Elementary School sent letters home about the death of second-grader Michaela Campanella. The counselors were brought in to help students and staff deal with the loss.

Campanella fell from the monkey bars and could not be revived.

According to Rick Kaufman, the spokesman for the Jefferson County school district, the girl's fall was cushioned by another classmate below her and soft gravel under the equipment.

An autopsy performed Tuesday determined that that Campanella's death was caused by heart failure and was probably the result of a congenital heart defect.

She had just completed a run with the rest of her class and was on the monkey bars when she collapsed.

On Oct. 26, an 8-year-old boy collapsed and died on a playground at a Denver elementary school. His death was due to a pre-existing heart condition
