I think it's time to visit your doctor again. The extreme thirst along with bloated feeling isn't good. Call the doctor and see what they say.

I certainly sympathize with the thirst problem. You should see your doctor and ask about fluid and sodium (salt!) restrictions to go along with your furosemide/lasix diuretic.
I have to watch my sodium intake real carefully or I find myself bloated and thirsty like you describe. If I find myself having any more than 2 grams (2000 mg) of sodium per day I retain alot of water and suffer from CHF including SOB particularly while lying down. The difficulty is that there is alot of salt in virtually all prepared foods, with soup being particularly nasty. It is alot of work to read the food labels and stay within the 2 gram/day limit. (I now have alot more fresh fruits and veges in my diet.)
To go along with the 2 gram sodium limit my fluids have been restricted to 2 liters (about 67 fl. oz) per day. That's tough, too. But honestly when I stay withing these limits I find myself feeling much, much better.
Good luck!

Rob is right, I'm down to 1.5 liters and no salt at all well it is hard when everything you buy has salt in it and my Dr. said do the best you can, baer some Dr. don't say anything about your salt intake they do talk about the water though and i find if i eat too much salt i will get thirsty and a dry mouth, I know it is hard i have been dealing with it now for a couple of years but it can be done, are you taking your pills on a daily bases or as needed? Mine is daily and very high doses, Dr.s are trying to find out why i retain what i do and i would like to know also, i measure everything that is put in my mouth that is liquid with a 2 liter bottle I marked it at 1.5 liters and that is all i will allow myself a day Doc also told me i might try Ice chips Good Luck

Shirley,
You might add hard candies to your list of remedies for dry mouth. I also like to have a bottle or two of sparkling water in the fridge instead of plain water when I want a sip or two.

I am with Reenie. Go to the doctor and check this out. Excessive thirst has that infamous connection with diabetes. I also take a daily dose of 40mg of fursomide in addition to Lasix. Yes, I sometimes feel quite thirsty and have to figure out whether I really need that water or not, but I do not have the terrible thirst you describe.

Well, that's certainly a lot of sodium at one shot. I hope you get more guidance from your doctors Monday on what type of diet you should follow - not to lose weight but to keep out of congestive heart failure. Please let us know what they say.

baer,
Yum. Sounds good. Only problem is that there's about 4 days worth of sodium in that cheese double-bacon burger and fries! Not surprising that you were thirsty.
I miss those meals *sigh*

Sounds like you're on your way. Glad to hear you talked to the doc and are going for blood workup.
I'm definitely a carnivore and I still get my meat--mostly lean meat done on the grill. One large advantage to Southern California over PA is being able to grill outdoors throughout the year. I do not miss snow or shoveling it (snow, that is).

I'm glad to hear you're on the right track now. It's too bad that you weren't educated before now. I hope you'll be feeling better in no time!

Rob,
Are you telling me that you have never put a turkey on the grill in the middle of winter with the snow up to your waist? That is the ONLY time to shovel snow is a path to the grill! :D Some how it just tastes better!

Well people I feel like a beached whale, I don't have the foggyist idea as to why, this is really getting old if i ask the doc he says take more fluid pills but i think 340 mg a day is enough, but i have been up on my feet alot in the last couple day so that may have something to do with me retaining more, so tomorrow i will take it easy and tyake 340mg and see if i can get it off or at least feel better, anyway I hope everyone is doing ok today
Shirley
