Hello people,
I am about to make an appointment in the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Just wondering, can you advise me a good and specialised doctor there ? I have a non-obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. With a name in hand, I try to make an appointment there for the beginning of december 2005.
Hope to hear from you!
Thanks and my very best wishes to all of you,
Patricia

Patricia, please send a private message to Lisa Salberg. She could advise you best. We try not to give out specific information on which doctors you should see here on the message board. There are several doctors at the Mayo who are great. Lisa can help you pick which one is best for you.

The Mayo Clinic has an entire department (they call it a clinic) devoted to HCM. You really can't go wrong as long as you let them know that you need to see an HCM doctor.

Dr. Nishimura is the head of the HCM clinic and you can shoot for him, but he may be a long wait. I saw Dr. Klarich and she is wonderful, but it was about five years ago and she may or may not still be there.

I'm not violating policy by letting you know who the head of the department is or who I saw. Reenie right in that talking to Lisa is always a good idea since she knows all the doctors really well and can discuss peculiarities of your case/needs in more detail than the board can handle properly.

Good luck and I LOVE the Mayo.

Patricia,

I saw Dr. Ommen at The Mayo Clinic in the HCM department and he is AWESOME. He has also attended the HCMA conferences as a speaker. I agree with Sarah, overall The Mayo Clinic is great in all aspects - just make sure you get someone in the HCM clinic.

Best wishes,

John

Definitely see someone from the HCM Clinic. Mayo has an incredibly large number of cardiologists on staff (160?), but the doctors you want to see are in the HCM Clinic.

I didn't mean to sound short. My husband saw Dr Ommen. I knew of Dr Nishimura too but I can't remember any other doctors' names. I agree with Sarah, just make sure you tell them you need to see someone in the HCM clinic. :)

Dear people,

Thank you all for answering my question and Reenie, you weren't short in answer. You all convinced me that I definitely want to go to the Mayo. Now just trying to get the money I need. For this purpose I'm organizing a benefite concert here in Amsterdam on november the 9th. Whenever someone of 4hcm.org is in Europe that time, let me know and I show you Amsterdam and see the concert!
All the the best wishes and thanks again for your answers!

I know you will get excellent care @ Mayo-the entire staff are excellent. I agree that as long as you have an appointment within the HCM Cardios-you'll obtain the care & info, you need. I had my Myectomy @ Mayo 2 years ago & Dr. Nishimura, was my cardio.
Should you need any other info ie-Hotels, etc let us know
GOOD LUCK!
Good Luck with your Fund Raiser-I was in Amsterdam. this Summer & fell in Love with your Country. The Dutch People seem to be the warmest, friendliest perople on Earth!
