A friend told me she heard something about children with heart disease and Viagra on TV last week. Anyone else hear?

Hi, Deborah,
I found this: http://www.news-medical.net/?id=10983
It discusses using Viagra to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension in children. It does not sound related to HCM.
Hope you and your precious daughter are doing well!

Use the search function (link in the red link cluster at top of page) to find related posts on this.
Viagra was originally intended to be a heart drug, then it was found to have other, more lucrative, effects. It can make your heart worse, or better, depending on what you have.
It is probably not going to help most HCMers from what I've read so far.

I do believe Viagra was used to treat Hypertention It was origanally a BP med and seem to cause an interesting reaction in men and didn't do too good at bringing BP down or rather it didn't give a lasting affect for the Blood pressure

Thanks everyone for the scoop on Viagra. It doesn't sound as though HCMers will benefit. I love this place for finding the latest news.

I know at the University of Florida they are doing a study with women who are suspected to have microvascular disease. They give you the viagra after trying to cause a spasm in the EP lab wait two hours cath you again and check the results. then you take it for two months return back and they do a doppler of your arteries to see how well they have vasodilated.
I think it is called the WISE study. But I wouldn't let the people at UF touch me with a ten foot pole much less do experiments on me!
