Noticed the following:

To get out of Afib, i usually take 20mg or 40mg propranolol, and usually, this will convert me back to sinus in a short time. However, when i have previously taken my daily dose of metoprolol (Toprol XL) the propranolol just doesn't seem to work if it is taken within 8-10 hours after the Toprol XL - which translates to me getting stuck in Afib misery of 140~190 bpm  . Do these meds work against each other?

This is not the best place to address this question, please contact your health care provider ASAP. Rapid rate A/F needs medical attention. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Yes miss  feeling better, the prop finally kicked in and things came to rest. I've taken Afib several times to the docs and to the ER, and i was hardly treated as an urgent heartpatient - how disappointing :? .

Well, i just have the feeling metaprolol isn't the right stuff for me. I'll start with Norpace shortly as the gradient is supposed to be the culprit behind my Afib. Am i a candidate for e.g. sotalol to replace metaprolol?

Sotalol is a hybrid beta-blocker and I don't know that you want to mix it with Norpace. I took Norpace and metropolol or nadolol (switched about half way) together for about ten years. Worked really well for me.

Alright, thanks Sarah. We'll start with Norpace together with metaprolol.

According to the prescription and the guidelines, i'll start with 100mg twice a day. Now, this may be too low, but i'm quite sensitive to medication, so we'll see what happens.

Hi, Ad,

I certainly hope that Norpace works well for you. I wish I could be more enthusiastic about it, but my experience with it this week left a lot to be desired.
